The Big G.C.

Also known as General Conference, the Big G.C. is a special time: a time when Mormons all over the world can gather together as one to laugh at subtle, witty Mormon jokes, continue Mormon family traditions, and just plain be...Mormon. Because Mormons are cool.

And while I've sat listening to the Mo-Tab (that big choir) and listening...attentively, I thought: Mormons really are cool! We have, like, our own culture and EVERYTHING! We have our own movies, our own music, our own food (funeral potatoes...Rhodes rolls...) ...our own capital city.... So why shouldn't the world know how freakin cool we really are? Maybe somebody should make a documentary about it.

And Mormon humor.... I love it! I love that (I am about to butcher the spelling of his name) Dieder Uchtdorf made fun of us for singing about trees that produce popcorn and singing bodies of water. Because REALLY...what the heck?

The bottom line is that we're cool people. No matter what anybody else says...or doesn't say? Or the looks you get when you say you don't drink, and your parents don't drink. That's a cool thing to be able to say!

I think the bottom line is that I just want all of you girls, my bestest friends, to know that Mormonness = happiness. Maybe not directly...maybe right now it's really tough and sometimes it's not very fun, but in the long run, it IS happiness. To be a Mormon is to be happy. I love it, and I want all of you to love it. Sometimes it seems like everything is gloom-and-doom, like all that you ever hear is being chastised and how you're not doing anything the right way...but the truth is that you're all great! You're all such amazing, fantastic people. You shine! All of you!

So, be happy. :) You're a Mormon!

Sincerely,

Jordyn Ashli Baker.

Tuesday and Thursday. And Saturday.

Jordyn here. Today is Tuesday. WOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOO! You know what that means.... MUTUAL. And our plans for tonight = service (washing dogs and yard work). So be prepared to work. Bring your 'paint clothes' as they say in the Theatre....

Thursday + Young Women + Party = .... I don't know how to end this phrase. Basically, party at my house {woot woot} on Thursday. 5:30. Be there or be square and bring some food stuffs. I think that my family will provide dinner-ish foods, so you can just supply the treats. Yeah. And the drinks. And stuff like chips. Also, we will watch a movie. What movie? I don't know! Quit asking me! Maybe we'll talk about it tonight at MUTUALLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!

SATURDAY. There is a dance. So, if you're going to the dance, good. Be dressed up. We'll talk about it when we see one another tonight, at MUTUAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!

Also, this is the last week of summer. Then, the s-word starts, and so does.... SEMINARY! HOOORRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYY!

Okay. So I was going to end this little bloggy-woggy here, but then I decided to share with you something that is interesting to me: one of my favorite artists is also a Mormon (which just goes to show that only the coolest people ever are Mormon). His name is James C. Christensen, and I've decided to post a few links to some of my favorite works of his below, so you're welcome to visit them. I enjoy them very much:

August 14th, 2009

Well, here we are! The much-awaited...BLOG.

Within the pages of this internet-based news extravaganza, we will keep you posted on such things as upcoming activities, news about the specific Young Women, and other very interesting and exciting...things.

So....

Happy (belated) Birthday, Morgan! We'll have a hug line for you next Sunday. Way to be the only other Laurel besides me. :) At last...company.... Happy (also belated) Birthday to Jacqueline! Hooray! We can't wait to see you again!!!!!!!! And, on a more personal note, I love you both (although I know that all the Young Women love you, too).

As for other announcements, I have:

DON'T FORGET! Next Sunday is the seminary thingy. So bring your parents. Be there or be sqaure....

Then, next Tuesday (and by next Tuesday, I mean Tuesday, August 18th, for those of us who are challenged with 'next weeks' and 'this weeks' ... Sister Reed ...) the calendar says that we are having a service night. YIPEEEEEEEEE!!! Although, that is subject to change, probably, considering we didn't have IHOPP last Tuesday, which might have thrown the rest of the month off schedule.

On Saturday, August 22nd, there...is...a...dance!!!!!! But there is NOT a temple trip that Saturday, so DO NOT show up at the church that morning, unless you just want to hang out at the church. If you do, then I'll say...whatever floats your boat.... But the dance will probably be freaking awesome, so come to that. It's at Richmond Stake Center...I think...which means we will probably meet at the church and carpool over there, because we love the Earth and want to save the ozone for our posterity. Be green. Plus also, the dance is the costume kind, so be fifties that night.

The Sunday after the dance, there is a priest-laurel fireside at 6:00 pm. So if you are me or Morgan, be there because it will probably be a good experience.

The Monday after that, the s-word starts. :( The Tuesday after that, don't come to Mutual.

The Wensday after that (August 26th) COME TO MUTUAL, and we'll all discuss our teachers and the awesome start-of-school experiences we will no doubt have.

Also, keep in mind that we will be sharing the building with Baybrook ward, and although that ward seems to be filled with good-looking and apparently attractive young men, we should keep to our side of the building and remember that we come to mutual to be with our fellow young women because we love them (more than we love any stinky old boys, anyway).

That pretty much lays out the month of August for you.

So, until the next post,

PEACE. LOVE. CHOOSE THE RIGHT.

P.S. I just went over the calendar again, and it didn't have scheduled a temple trip at all, but I KNOW there is one! So hang tight. The truth of when it is will probably be announced on Sunday.

My mom just said the temple trip is the 29th at 7:00 a.m. at the church. So be there.

P.P.S. I won't be there on Sunday, and maybe not on Tuesday, either. So, I love you all. I miss you already. Be good.

P.P.P.S. This is Jordyn, by the way, in case you couldn't tell.
